The 22nd annual Pittsburgh Magazine Best Restaurants Party took place at the East Club Lounge of Heinz Field on June 6, attracting nearly 2,000 people (hungry souls), paying $100 a ticket, impatiently waiting in line to get in for the feast. There are 58 best Pittsburgh restaurants participating in this exciting event, they contributed and provided numerous dishes of scrumptious and mouthwatering treats. All the proceeds will go to WQED educational TV Station.

Betsy Benson was in charge of the event; she pointed out that the voting by Pittsburgh Magazine readers began in February to select the top 25 best restaurants. There are additional 25 restaurants selected by a committee of 20 persons. All selected restaurants are invited to participate.

Chinese restaurant, 「芷園 (Sesame Inn) has claimed the champion by the magazine readers 10 years in a row. The owner, Mr. & Mrs. Lee (李永壽夫婦), have been active in community affair and enthusiastic contributors of Tzu-Chi charity. Mobilizing all family, Sesame Inn provided steamed shrimp balls for nearly 2,000 people. Mr. Lee (李永壽) also owns another participating restaurant, 梅園, the chief chef of which, 李建平 and 陶才偉, prepared delicious crab cakes and jelly skin spring rolls, earning high praise.

Another Japanese restaurant, operated by overseas Chinese American, 「甜瑪利」(Tamari)was also selected on the honor roll; Tamari offered top grade, refined Japanese sushi, sashimi with caviar. The parents of Tamari’s owner, 陳飛夫婦, also came to give support. (Dr. Fu Noodle)—the owner has a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University—任大衛 and his staff busied themselves at making the famous and delectable noodle.

The food provided are abundant and scrumptious including roast tender pig (烤乳豬), lamb chops (烤羊排), small grilled steak (烤小牛排), Japanese sashimi (日本生魚片), raw oyster (生蠔), French cheese (法國起司), goat cheese (羊酪), chocolate dessert (巧克力甜點), wine cake (加酒蛋糕), honey ham (蜜汁火腿), various ice creams (冰淇淋製品), champagne fruit (水果香檳), all sorts of wines and drinks. Unfortunately our stomach is not a bottomless pit; no one can taste them all.

There was a lottery lucky draw for a pad donated by the Pittsburgh Magazine. Everyone expects to return for this feast and festivity next year. (by Katy Tsai,
